STORIES THAT TRAVEL BEYOND THE WALLS

People as artefacts…and it’s not about live exhibitions

28.09.2015.

Do you like visiting museums? I like experiencing new spaces, catching atmospheres, understanding what the curator and the artists would like to share with their audience. But there is one thing that keeps disturbing my “museum experience”: the guardians of exhibitions. They are polite. In most cases they run, trying to escape the camera lens. Sometimes they ask visitors to take away their backpacks or not use the flash. These are the only roles that I observed.

Usually I don’t like taking pictures in museums, but I would like to point out that they are not simple guardians. Through their attitude they become integrated artefacts in the exhibition spaces. This could be considered a personal protest against symbols of authority, specially connected with art places.

Of course that the theme of new and “old” museology  could be discussed, but let’s keep it simple for now. :)

If you had similar experiences, please share them.

If you want to use the photo it would also be good to check with the artist beforehand in case it is subject to copyright. Best wishes. Aaren Reggis Sela

You made a few fine points there. I did a search on the matter and found the majority of persons will have the same opinion with your blog. Angela Billy Hurley
